The World Gallery contains the finest and most comprehensive collection of antique world maps for sale anywhere. These range from fabulously rare "incunables" preceding the voyages of Columbus and Magellan to political maps of the late colonial period.

Ourmaps of Europe encapsulate the changes in both geographical knowledge and the political boundaries from the Middle Ages to the beginning of this century.

After the voyages of discovery by Columbus, Magellan, Vespucci and Cabot in the New World and Polo, da Gama and Ricci in the Far East, the face of the world was changed forever. Antique maps of these areas graphically trace the rise and fall of great Empires from the Age of Discovery to the late nineteenth century.

The maps of the continent of Africa and its regions show the European discovery of the whole continent and the rapid development of the mapping of its coastline. They range from the earliest depictions of the Cape of Good Hope after its rounding by Bartolomeo Diaz in 1487 to the 19th century exploration of the interior by Livingstone, Burton and Speke.

As well as containing our collection of topographical engravings depicting all parts of the world, the Engravings Gallery also has a large selection of decorative subjects including botanical, sporting architectural, naval, ornithological, military, hunting and golf among many others.
