Attractive double hemisphere world map with scenes in each corner allegorically representing the continents. The lower centre represents the Creation.
Geographically, the map is based on de L'Isle, including his tracks showing the routes of explorers such as Magellan, Tasman and Le Maire. The corner decorations were added by van der Aa in 1713 and are allegories of the continents, represented by the principal female figure in each vignette. The lower centre shows the planet emerging from surrounding clouds with the continents of Asia, Africa and Europe visible on its surface. Original hand colour. [WLD4516]
