Colbran's Visitors Map of Tunbridge Wells shewing the Walks and Drives within the Immediate Neighbourhood
Mid-nineteenth century folding plan of Tunbridge Wells highlighting public thoroughfares, footpaths, important buildings, and green spaces in the town, with the aim of encouraging visitors to explore this beautifully landscape, historic spa town in Kent.
We have attributed the date circa 1850 to the map because of the South Eastern Railway line, which connected London to Hastings and was installed in 1845.
Very charmingly pasted on the inside covers of the folding case are two panels; one a guide to "Pleasant Rides and Drives" with a table of destination suggestions and how far in miles from Tunbridge Wells, the other an advertising panel of other works local Tunbridge Wells resident Colbran has published about the area.
Original hand colour. [Folded] [KENT663]
