A dramatic copper-engraved map of the Dalmatian coast of Croatia with parts of Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Albania. The map extends from Istria in the north to Durres (Durazzo) in the south, and includes the cities of Trieste, Rijeka, Zagreb, Sarajevo, Belgrade, Dubrovnik (Ragusa), Kotor, Split, and Podgorica.
This map was published during a time of war between Venice, the Ottoman Empire, and the Holy Roman Empire. Icons on the map indicate which land was controlled by each of these three nations as explained by the map's key. Christian forts and Turkish forts are also distinguished. Published by the Rossi firm in Rome, the map's geography was compiled and drawn by the Italian cartographer Giacomo Cantelli, Court Geographer to the Duke of Modena.
