Suisse et Nord de L’Italie

Large-scale, mid-19th Century French atlas map of Switzerland and Northern Italy. This incredibly detailed map names major towns and cities, highlights the huge network of railway and road routes.



The map shows parts of Germany, France and Austria; extending west to modern day Bourg-en-Bresse, Chambéry and Grenoble, north to Freiburg im Breisgau and Colmar either side of the Rhein River, and east to Munich, Innsbruck and Trento. Within these areas, the map marks major towns and cities, river systems and railway routes. Only the interior of Switzerland and Northern Italy uses colour to indicate interior administrative divisions, and features finely engraved topographical detail.



The map has been engraved by Charles Dyonnet and the geography mapped by A. H. Dufour. Presented in original hand colour [SWAS1298]
