The general outline of the map follows the geography first laid out by the Society of Useful Knowledge in the 1840s. However, subsequent editions of this map updated the new provinces of the Dominion. This version of the map is extremely colourful and hence helpful in delineating the new borders. Of particular note is the acquisition of Alaska by the United States in 1867, here clearly marked with a red border.
A far more tentative border is also marked on the north eastern section Greenland, where the map seems to connect Grinell Land and Inglefield Land as a part of Canada. Original colour. [CAN3080]
