Survey of India
112 x 132 cm
This rare wall map of the historical Northwest Province, the Punjab and Kashmir is probably the most detailed regional map of its time. There is no indication on the map as to significance of the colour separations but due to the care in their depiction, they must have some meaning.
The lower left margins bears the statement: "Specially prepared for the Foreign Department" suggesting a printing in very small numbers as it was only issued for one government department.
This was a working copy of the map. There have been several manuscript annotations on it, adding and naming railway lines, several corrections of regional borders as well as corrections of regional nomenclature. There is a little wear on the reverse of the map, resulting in a small perforation on the lowermost right corner panel in blank area of the map. Please see the image.
Original slip case included. Original colour. [IC2993]
