Extremely important map focusing on the historically pivotal entrances to the fabled Spice Islands, namely the Singapore Straits and the Sunda Straits.

The map was produced by de Bry in his "Petits Voyage" and is based on a secret map by Willem Lodewijksz, navigator to the first Dutch expedition to the East Indies which also proved the feasibility of the use of the Sunda Straits as an alternate route to the Spice Islands, instead of the Singapore Straits which were monopolised by the Portuguese.

It is the first commercially available map to focus on this area and it is extremely important in the development of the Netherlands as well as the Far East.
