Constantinople (Istanbul). One of the earliest city views of Constantinople, depicted within living memory of its capture by the Ottomans. The Byzantine Emperor's coat of arms, an imperial eagle, still adorns the gates and the famous great chain bars the entrance to the Golden Horn. This was published in the celebrated "Nuremberg Chronicle".
Latin text above describes the city in great detail (translation available on request). Framed. [TKY928] |
