Description:
Separately issued folding vintage city plan of Scarborough in North Yorkshire.

This is one of the more unusual entries in a series of popular folding city plans published by George Washington Bacon in the 1880s to take advantage of the new past time of leisure travel. Picturesque Scarborough quickly became a favourite with the public as destination from the Victorian period onwards. Although Bacon's name is still used on the map, by the issue date of this map, the firm had long been owned by the venerable publishing house of W. & A.K Johnston of Edinburgh who continued to use the Bacon imprint for marketing purposes.
