Separately issued folding plan of Paris showing the city walls as well as its series of defensive fortresses. Inset of the city and environs on the lower left.
The plan is handsomely illustrated with a series off vignettes of important buildings. A red line running north south, roughly across the centre of the city shows the position “les Insurgees” during the June Days Uprising of 1848. This was a brief, bloody but unsuccessful rebellion against the government in June 22-26 of 1848. This ultimately led to the Fall of the Second Republic and the inauguration to Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte as President of the French Republic. A note on the lower margin of the map explains the importance of the red line.
Issued in 1850, this map is a near contemporary source for this important French historical event.
Folding map backed on linen. Original hand colour. SL [FR3332] |
