This stunning late-Georgian map of Newcastle was surveyed and compiled by Thomas Oliver, a local surveyor. It is exquisitely detailed with every building marked and with house numbers listed where they were in use. Individual trees and the layouts of some gardens are also included on the map, a remarkable achievement.
The map is further embellished with a panorama of the town as viewed from the south. This panorama is also drawn by Thomas Oliver, a testament to his artistic abilities. The map was engraved by the Edinburgh firm of W.H. Lizars.
