Description:
Separately issued folding example of Monin's beautiful rendering of a comparative chart of the mountains, rivers, and waterfalls of the world.

The format of this map is based on Antoine Bulla’s 1826 “Tableau Comparatif”. It has been substantially revised and developed by Charles Monin for his Atlas Classique. In particular, the waterfalls on the lower right have been re-drawn and several new notes have been added to the information surrounding the map. At this time, Dawalgiri or modern Dhaulagiri was believed to be the tallest mountain in the world while the longest river was thought to be the Mississippi. The Nile was relegated to fifth place.

This is a particularly fine example of this map, segmented and backed on linen, with beautiful original hand colour and sold with its original case. Framed. [WLD4634]
