Description:

|
Large plan of Edinburgh published by venerable Scottish firm, W. & A. K. Johnston Ltd. This handsome plan extends from Granton Harbour to Leith dockyards along the northern coast, south to encompass Myreside and Prestonfield by Holyrood Park (formerly The Queen’s Park).
Both important buildings and the railway network is highlighted in a bold red, and roads are marked in yellow. Parks, cemeteries and other open spaces are shown with immaculate landscaping and coloured green.
This map looks to have derived and been developed from Johnston's own "City Plan or Map of Edinburgh and Leith, Scotland" (1869). An example of this map held by the National Library of Scotland pictures it as originally having had a folded card cover, suggesting it was a separately issued plan aimed at visitors.
