Schematic map showing the newly established air route between Canton, Macao and Hong Kong. It was published as a educational primer for students at the Jesuit College of St. Ignatius of Zikawei.
Jouon was a Jesuit lecturer or teacher at St. Ignatius College, a part of the Jesuit Cathedral of Zikawei or modern Xujiahui in Shanghai. It was built between 1906-10 and called the “grandest Catholic Church in the Far East.”
Jouon produced this work of schematic maps as a simple introductory work on the commercial and logistical geography of mostly China but also the Far East. The work went through several editions attesting to its enduring success and popularity.
This triangular air route was serviced by seaplanes between Macau, Hong Kong and Canton.
