Description:
Early 20th century terrestrial globe presented upon a simple twisted metal base. Printed globe gores.
Antarctica is the main indicator for the dating of this globe; it shows the very limited knowledge of the extent of the Continent, almost certainly prior to the Scottish National Antarctic, or "Scotia" Expedition in 1902-1904 led by William Speirs Bruce
The venerable Scottish firm, W. & A. K. Johnston produced this globe and it was exported for sale by American publishers and sellers, Weber Costello Co. based in Chicago, IL. This was not uncommon practice by American globemakers of the time.
