Southern sheet of Mercator's two sheet map of Scotland showing the English border to the upper part of Ross and Cromarty in the north.
This is the southern sheet of one of the iconic early maps of Scotland. It is based on Mercator's wall map of Europe and was used by multiple map makers until the new survey by Timothy Pont, published by Blaeu in 1654.
This example is in outstanding original colour and the whole aesthetic of the map epitomises many of the features which illustrate the Dutch Golden Age of Cartography.
