Description:
Large copper-engraved map of the historical region of Achaia, now split between the regions of Attica and Boeotia. The important cities of Athens and Thebes are both marked. Embellished with a grand title cartouche.

This map was published by Johann Baptist Homann, one of the greatest German mapmakers of the 18th century, but was designed by his son, Johann Christoph. The information on the map is credited by Homann to an English clergyman and traveller, Sir George Wheler, who visited Greece in 1675-6 and subsequently published an account, A Journey into Greece, in 1682.
