Fundamentally, the map follows the outline of the Peninsula established by D'Anville in the mid 18th century but with new European knowledge integrated into the coastline, particularly from the journeys of Carsten Niebuhr, hence the very early inclusion of "Grayn" in the northwestern section of the Gulf, which is an old name for Kuwait.
More detail is provided through a series of caravan stops from along the route roughly between Basra and Mecca. The west coast shows the great cities of Mecca, Medina and Jeddah.
