The Map House offers a bespoke framing service for antique and vintage maps, prints and posters purchased in our gallery

  • Our Framing Service

Working with a selection of talented framers across London, we provide a tailored service to frame your antique maps and prints. Our trusted framers have a keen eye for detail and use conservation techniques to keep your works in the very best condition for years to come. All framing is completed using acid-neutral materials and UV protective glazing.

We can provide framing quotes in our gallery in Knightsbridge, or via email by sharing illustrations and images. The cost of framing is dependent on the style of framing chosen and size of the piece. If you would like to match an existing framing scheme in your home, or simply want some advise on what complements the piece, all you need do is ask!

Framing usually takes between 5-10 working days to complete, however if you require a quicker turnaround, please let us know and we can check if our framer can accommodate this. For a tailored quote or proposal, please contact us at maps@themaphouse.com

Please note that we cannot frame items not purchased at The Map House. Framing costs incur VAT.

    Framing Advice

The Map House recommends that all original antique and vintage maps, prints, engravings and posters are mounted using acid-neutral or acid-free materials. Non acid-free card and mounting materials will over time cause damage to the paper in the form of brown spotting or ‘foxing’, or acid-burn. Dry mounting (the use of spray glues and similar adhesives) should never be employed, as this may not be reversible, and will reduce, or possibly even destroy, the value of the map/print.

We strongly suggest that anti-ultraviolet (UV) glass or acrylic glazing is used during the framing process, and emphasise that pieces should never be hung in direct sunlight.

If there is text or a detail on the reverse of the map/print that may benefit from double-glazing (glazing on both sides of the frame) we suggest using acrylic on the reverse as condensation can form on the inside of the frame if glass is used for both sides.
