Attractive Dutch Golden Age map of Devon embellished with a decorative title cartouche, the Royal coat of arms, and the armorial crests of local nobles, including members of the Cecil, Beaufort, Stafford, and Courtenay families. Geographically, the map is based on John Speed's map of 1611, which is itself based on Christopher Saxton's survey from the 1570s. This map copies Speed's mistake of placing 'Edgcombe', a small town just west of Plymouth, in Cornwall instead of in Devon, where it should be situated.
