Attractive map of the Virgin Islands based on French surveys of the Caribbean Sea. This map was issued in Bellin's Petit Atlas Maritime, a smaller and more accessible work of charts which differed greatly from his large Neptune Francais. Many of the smaller charts used in the Petit Atlas had previously appeared in the vast multi-volume Histoire des Voyages published throughout the 1750s. However, this map did not and appears only in the Petit Atlas in 1764, making it comparatively rare. Original hand colour.
