Sales Assistant - Full Time
About the Role
The Map House is looking for a Full Time Sales Assistant to join our small and friendly team. The role would be well-suited for someone with a passion for history and maps who is keen to develop their knowledge within this fascinating area of antiques and cartography. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be highly productive, and will support the whole team with enthusiasm, care, and attention.
About The Map House
The Map House is the world’s oldest and largest antique map specialist, with an extensive collection of over 20,000 original antique and vintage maps, topographical and decorative engravings, globes, and scientific instruments. Founded in 1907, we have an established reputation selling maps and prints to a large international client base, in store and online.
Job Responsibilities
- Welcoming customers and visitors to the gallery, answering email and telephone enquiries, and providing information about maps and prints in our collection.
- Generating sales in the gallery and online.
- Facilitating packing, shipping, storage, and framing of customer purchases.
- Digitising and editing maps and prints on a large format scanner.
- Maintaining the map and print image libraries.
- Preparing for and attending events and exhibitions.
- There may also be an opportunity to create content for our social media platforms.
Requirements
- An interest in antique maps and printed material, and a knowledge of history, geography, art history, or other related fields.
- Experience in a high-end, customer-facing role. Confident and able to deal with customers in person, online, and over the phone.
- Excellent working knowledge of Outlook, MS Office, Adobe Photoshop and other mainstream office software
- Organized with a keen eye for detail and the ability to balance multiple tasks.
Desirable Experience
- Experience handling and packing antiques and printed materials
- Experience of Adobe Design Software, Illustrator, and InDesign.
- Experience using Artlogic CMS and database platforms.
- Experience preparing written and video content for social media (primarily Instagram).
Our Knightsbridge gallery is open Monday – Saturday so working on periodic Saturdays will be required from the successful candidate. The regular working hours are Monday to Friday 10:00am-6pm, and on Saturdays 10:30am-5pm. If scheduled to work a weekend, a day off is given during the week in lieu.
The role is gallery-based, permanent and full time.
