This map is based Stanford's map of Africa. It is slightly reduced and shows the continent just before the outcome of the Berlin Conference on Africa in 1885. It shows an interesting mixture of African and European powers throughout the continent. These include Egypt and its possessions stretching into South Sudan, the Sultanate of Zanzibar in east Africa, the Ashanti territories in west Africa, the Empires of Morocco in the north and the Matabele in the south central region. European possessions include the British in the South and West, French possessions in Algiers and Gabon and early German claims to the coasts of Cameroon and Namibia. Original colour. [AFR6338]
