George W. Bacon
33 x 44 cm
The geographical basis of this map can be traced back to a map of the same area issued by the Society of Useful Knowledge in the 1840s. This map was re-issued and updated by several publishers including Edward Stanford and Thomas Letts. Bacon increased its size slightly for his version and added block colour. He also followed suit in geo-politicising the map by showing European possessions and spheres of influence in the region. A key is supplied on the lower left. His use of block colour emphasizes this aspect of the map. Original colour. [SEAS5463]
