Beautiful example of Blaeu's map of Derbyshire with a large cartouche on the lower left.
Geographically, the map is based on John Speed's map first published in 1611. Aesthetically however, this is very much Blaeu's own rendering.
The map of Derbyshire has one of the largest cartouches in the whole series. It is present on the lower left of the map and portrays the rural riches of the county. There is also a series of armorial shields on the right highlighting the families of large landowners in the region. Original colour. Dutch descriptive text on the reverse.
