in 1654, the Blaeu firm published the first regional atlas of Scotland. The work was based on the surveys of the surveyor, Timothy Pont. This series of maps are regarded as the first regional maps of Scotland and hence this map of Carrick is the first printed map of the area. A cornerstone map for any collection of Scottish maps.
