A miniature map of the Guianas, covering modern-day Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. The mythical Lake Parime and El Dorado, the fabled city of gold, are both shown on the map, as are the mouths of the Amazon and Orinoco Rivers. Major towns and settlements are noted.
Published in Pierre Duval's Geographie Universelle, a pocket atlas composed largely of reduced versions of Nicolas Sanson's maps. Duval was Sanson's nephew and pupil, and he continued publishing Sanson maps long after his uncle's death, usually under his own imprint and with updates and modifications.
