Though not the first travel guide aimed at women (the first English guidebook for solo female travellers was written by Lillias Campbell Davidson in 1889), it is still a rarity for the mid-20th century.
The map's focus on shopping, fashion, romance, and sightseeing is quaint in this modern age, but it should be noted that the existence of the guidebook is a testament to the growing freedoms enjoyed by some women in the United States after the Second World War.
