Harry Beck
14 x 20 cm
Harry Beck's now-iconic map of the London Underground was first issued to the public in January, 1933. A second edition was printed in February, 1933 to reflect the opening of Southgate and Enfield West stations. A third edition appeared in April, 1933 to coincide with the release of the first Quad Royal poster edition of the map. A fourth, undated, edition was issued around August, and there were two more editions in September (this example) and December, 1933. All of the 1933 editions are sought-after by collectors as they represent the beginning of the modern Tube map.
