Rare map focusing on the Gulf based on D'Anville's larger chart first published in 1758.
The geographical basis of this map is D'Anville's large map of 1758 but now augmented and revised with several new names along the Arabian coast. It also bears a very early siting of "Gran" the old name of Kuwait.
This map is particularly rare as it is present in the "Histoire des Hommes, Partie de l'Histoire Moderne" an vastly ambitious geo-historical account of the history of human kind. Unfortunately, de Sales disputed the Biblical assertion that the earth was created approximately 4000 years before Christ and stated that the earth was much older than that. This led to him being declared a heretic and many of his work censored or destroyed.
