Unusual map of east Africa from the Horn to Mombasa on the
Kenyan coast showing the names and location of the tribes settled there.
The map was originally published by the Geographical Section
General Staff in 1943, during World War II, most likely to provide information after
the end of the East African Campaign against Italy. In 1953, the map was
re-issued and re-purposed to show the names and locations of the tribes present
in the area. This is sheet 1 of a pair. Sheet 2 shows Tanzania.
This is an early example of ethnographic
mapping. Original colour. [AFR6455]
