Unusual map of the Balearic Islands published for the "Diccionario Geografico Estadistico" in the mid 19th century.
The "Diccionario" was a vast work comprising of seventeen volumes published between 1845-50, compiling both geographical and historical data for Spain and its possessions. It was published and edited by Pascual Madoz, a Spanish politician, who rose to become the Minister of Finance. It is recorded that the information was collected from over a thousand sources and that it took almost sixteen years to prepare the work.
