The artist, Stanley Turner, published 28 editions of this map throughout the war, starting in 1942 and ending in May, 1945. Among the many dated events dotted throughout the face the map, the latest we could find is the announcement of the crossing of the Rhine by Allied forces on March 7th 1945.
Several insets are present on the map, illustrating the progress of the Allies throughout the War, explained by a key on the upper right. Insets focus on the Philippines and Japan on the right, the Balkans on the upper centre and the advance of the Allies against Germany on the lower left.
Turner first issued this map in 1942 the maps are renowned as a fascinating record of the Second World War as they were updated so frequently yet retained the same base world map throughout. This allows the reader to compare between two editions to see at a glance how the war had progressed.
