Colourful map of Europe as historically drawn in 1944. The map bears numerous historical notes relating to the conflict and shows the capitals of Europe.
Turner's Dated Events map of Fortress Europe must have been in preparation during 1944 as most the latest historical notes bear a reference to 1943. However, a hurried stamp, completely out of keeping with the rest of the map, is placed in the centre left and reads "Invasion of France, June 6, '44." This suggests that the map must have been hurriedly issued just after "D-Day" with this small amendment.
The colouring on the map refers to the topographical elevation of the landscape, as per the key on the lower left while the Theatre of War is in colours ranging from ochre to crimson depending on the height of the land.
