Robert Morden
36 x 43 cm
When Robert Morden was planning a new edition of William Camden's "Britannia", he decided to illustrate it with a new set of county maps. These would be updated versions of the maps provided by William Kip and William Hole for the three editions of the early 17th century.
The resulting maps were updated to an extent but still mainly based on the cartography of John Speed but the engraving style is influenced by the Dutch style of publishing houses such as Blaeu and de Wit. The overall aesthetic is less ornate but clearer, with an emphasis on the detail of the maps.
Coloured. [YORKS1046]
