George & John Cary
50 x 56 cm
Egypt with an enlarged inset of the Nile delta. Almost all of the country's interior beyond the banks of the Nile is still unknown. A few caravan routes are marked.
Egypt had recently been catapulted to international attention by Napoleon's aborted invasion of the country in 1798. Suddenly it became a British sphere of influence with both naval and military activity increasing rapidly by 1805.
Original hand-colour.
