Teodore Viero
46 x 54 cm
Beautiful map of Venice based on the wall map of Ludovico Ughi with an added grid and key on the lower margin.
Viero was an eminent Venetian publisher who specialised in views of the city, although he also issued maps. There is no mention of who engraved the map, but Viero was an expert engraver as well as uncle to Luigi Schiavonetti, another noted Venetian engraver, so it may have been the work of either man.
Ludovico Ughi's wall map of the city was first issued in 1729 and immediately became the major source for 18th century maps of Venice. The grid and key at the bottom were a later addition, probably by Viero.
Original colour.
