This map is notable for its record of the latest political developments to 1840, especially the new geopolitical demarcation in South America after the demise of the Spanish colonies, the westward expansion of the United States and especially the clear delineation of the short lived Republic of Texas with its claims of borders along the Sabine River in the east and the Rio del Norte or Grande in the west. Great Britain only acknowledged the existence of the Republic in November of 1840 which shows that this map was published in a very narrow window.
