J.S.C. Dumont D'Urville
89 x 58 cm
D'Urville was put in command of the French Corvette "Astrolabe" as it embarked on a voyage of exploration between the years 1826-9. His cartographic surveys of the coasts of New Zealand and Australia are now considered second only to Captain Cook in accuracy and importance.
This sheet details the coasts of the Hauraki Gulf on the North Island and is a fine example of the extraoridinarily careful and painstaking work that both the Captain and his crew took while surveying these new and dangerous coasts.
