Depot de la Guerre
47 x 62 cm
A curious French map of London and its environs, extending from Twickenham to Rainham, and from Croydon to Edgware. Derived from a section of William Faden's map of the environs 25 miles around London, this rare map was printed in France by Napoleon's Dépôt Général de la Guerre, or War Department, in preparation for a possible invasion of Britain. The map is dated 'Year XII' of the French Republican calendar, which had been introduced in 1793 after the French Revolution, but was scrapped by Napoleon in 1805.
Coloured. [LDN7460]
