Gilmore Map Company
81 x 81 cm
This is part of a series of maps of Atlanta issued by Mr. Gilmore's Map Company. They provide a fascinating record of the development of the city. As well as showing the changes in the centre of the city and recording the growth of the outer environs, they also record civic improvements. This example bears an inset on the upper right showing the newly named Atlanta Municipal Airport, in modern times the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
An inset on the lower right is far more whimsical, showing schematic mountain with several major North American cities at specific heights; Atlanta is perched on the summit at a height of 1050 feet.
