William Bowyer
97 x 102 cm
This is part of a series of Quad Royal maps drawn by the celebrated artist William Bowyer in his youth as part of a contract for British Rail. The maps focus on the history, whimsy and attractions of each county in a style which goes back to the early 20th century and was popularised by Macdonald Gill.
The British Railways logo is superimposed on a compass rose on the lower right while the map also bears a portrait of Edward the Black Prince, the first Duke of Cornwall, a title now associated with the Prince of Wales.
