Fascinatingly, military reserves in the Ohio territory and Western Kentucky are also delineated. Settlement in this regions was restricted to veterans of the Revolutionary War, many of whom were promised land grants in exchange for their service instead of payment. The Virginia and North Carolina delegations acquired these parcels of land in exchange for relinquishing their claims to territory in Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, and Kentucky.
