A large, uncommon map of Tehran and the surrounding region, noting every small town and village, along with roads, post stations, mausoleums, mines, ruins, and caravanserais. The city of Tehran, itself, is shown as a compact, octagonal, walled city with only one short railway line extending to the Shah Abdol-Azim Shrine at Rey. This was Iran's first passenger railway line.
The map's geography is based on the surveys of Arthur Friedrich Stahl, a German mining engineer and geologist who also served as Postmaster General in Persia, which explains the map's focus on communication routes and postal stations. Printed colour. [MEAST4890]
