Although some of the infrastructure in the region is made apparent, particularly the railways and the political borders with nearby countries, the main focus are the natural resources and manufacturing centres of the region. These include gold, copper, asbestos and cobalt for the former and coal mining, lime making, bacon curing and saw mills for the latter.
In modern terms, the region of Southern Rhodesia corresponds approximately to Zimbabwe, Northern Rhodesia to Zambia and Nyasaland to Malawi.
