Robert Wilkinson
23 x 31 cm
This is Wilkinson's map of the western Mediterranean showing North Africa, Spain, southern France and Italy. The focus of the map is the route of Hannibal's expedition from Spain to Italy to campaign against the Romans. The the source for this route were the chronicles of the period written by the great classic writers although some of the geographical position would have been Wilkinson's interpretation. Both Carthage in modern Tunisia and Rome are clearly marked as is New Carthage, or modern-day Cartagena in Spain, the origin of the expedition.
