The most notable feature on this plan are the monumental defences of the city. It is drawn on the same orientation as Rocque's masterful plan of 1766, to which it also bears a strong resemblance. The main difference is that the moat now only reaches the Porte Neuve, just beyond the Bastion d'Hollande, named after the Dutch engineer who built it, Maximilien d'Yvoy. Coloured. [SWAS1552]
