This small chart was present in the second edition of A Narrative of the Services and Voyages of the Nemesis from 1840 to 1843. The Nemesis was an East India Company battleship which served during the First Opium War under the leadership of William Hutcheon Hall. Ultimately rising to the rank of Admiral, Hall was immortalized in this account of the ship’s actions during the War and was also nicknamed “Nemesis Hall” after the war finished. The work was written by William Bernard who made extensive us of Hall’s notes and logs.
This is one of the earliest accurate maps available of the island. [SEAS5427]
