This clear early 20th century map focuses on the geo-political situation of the region just prior to the Great War. The two major powers in the region at the time were Persia and the Ottoman Empire. Part of the map also shows Russian gains in the Caucasus and on the east coast of the Caspian Sea. Russia was considered a clear expansionist threat by most of the European powers at the time. The Ottoman possessions are Egypt, the west coast of Arabia and the region of El Hasa on the east of the Peninsula. British possessions are Aden and Cyprus. The interior of Arabia is independent. A partial key is present on the lower centre of the map.
